Upon arriving, I waited in line for an hour and a half to go through customs. Once through I went to get my luggage and make my way to the bus terminals. Luckily, I was traveling with my best friend, Lauren. So all of the waiting was spent talking about random stuff and sleeping. The bus ride from London Heathrow to Oxford was about an hour and a half. Most of which I slept. Seeing as how I had gotten less than 9 hours of sleep in the 2 days of travel.
When in Oxford, you are surround by buildings, some of which are older than the United States itself! The history and splendor are almost too overwhelming. The first thing I see when entering Radcliffe Square is the Radcliffe Camera. It is not actually a camera, but a gorgeous building.
There's the Camera!!
The first few days were spent trying to adjust to the 5 hour time difference and orient myself to the city. Oh, and taking a class, which is really the reason why I am over here. I am studying at Brasenose College. Oxford University is made up of a bunch of colleges and I'm studying at Brasenose as a part of the Oakland British Studies at Oxford Program, which is a study abroad opportunity.
On July fourth I went to London with the group. I know, how patriotic to spend the day in London. I saw the Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, and Shakespeare's Globe Theater to name a few things.
There's me with Big Ben!!
London is wonderful and so fast-paced. I love it!! It's kind of like Chicago on steroids. One of the big differences is that it rains everyday, but I guess I would not be a true Michigander if I didn't complain about the weather where ever I go.
I guess another one of the really exciting things that I did was go see Stonehenge. It was totally amazing and I feel that there are not enough adjectives to describe the feelings I have for Stonehenge's beauty and mystery.
My friend, Christiana, and Me at Stonehenge with an OU flag! REPRESENT!!
I think that pretty much catches you up. I will be making a post about the differences in UK things and US things. It'll be pretty exciting.
Until next time, cheers!!
